Let us take you on a sensory journey through history and the sense of smell, a unique experience that leads to the rediscovery of the secrets of perfume in antiquity. The Forlimpopoli Archaeological Museum, with its collection of finds and evidence from local excavations, offers you the opportunity to explore the use of perfumes in Roman and pre-Roman civilisations, through objects, fragrances and rituals that tell us how perfume was an integral part of daily life, medicine, religion and ceremonies.

During the visit, you will discover the ancient production techniques of oils and essences used in antiquity, from perfumes intended for the gods to those for personal hygiene and body care.

You will be able to admire vases, bottles, utensils and other archaeological material typically associated with women: today, however, analysis of the sources reveals that men were also very concerned about their physical appearance and smell...!

At the end of the visit you can learn about the main essences loved by the ancients, and make a real perfume to take home, thanks to the collaboration with the Herb Garden of Casola Valsenio!
